The Porthcawl Museum is housed in the old Porthcawl Police Station, situated in the coastal town of Porthcawl, 20 miles west of Cardiff. Porthcawl is a vibrant modern seaside town.
The Porthcawl Museum and Historical Society is a voluntary organization founded in October 1972. Through the enthusiasm of the founder members and the co-operation of Ogwr Borough Council, premises were eventually provided in a part of the Old Police Station. The Police Station had been built on ground granted to the County in 1881 by Mrs Mary Caroline Brogden, wife of Mr James Brogden who was instrumental in developing the docks at Porthcawl.
The museum was officially opened in November 1977. Over the years, through donations and loans ,we have amassed in excess of 5,700 items such as costumes, artefacts, militaria, ceramics, photographs, documents and archaelogical finds. Apart from the wealth of objects meticulously recorded, some of our members ,also, deliver historical lectures to local organisations.
Since the museum opened we have not only welcomed visitors from our own locality but from all over the world.

Officers of the Museum:
  • Mr Paul Joseph - Chairman
  • Mr David Swidenbank – Vice Chairman
  • Mrs Ceri Joseph – Hon Secretary
  • Mrs Glenys Davies – Hon Treasurer.
Membership is £10 per annum which includes unlimited free visits to the museum. We are always pleased to welcome new members to not only swell our ranks but hopefully add to our rich tapestry of information and local knowledge.
