The 18th Welsh Service (2nd Glamorgan) Battalion was formed between February and July 1915. This regiment was to forge a great friendship with the town of Porthcawl.
"On 27th June 1919 the King's Colour, which was presented to the 18th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment by the Prince of Wales in France, and consecrated by Bishop Gwynne, was deposited  in All Saints Church, and committed to the safe keeping of the parishioners."

The Dispatch of the Troops

"The railway arrangements carried out under the supervision of Mr Lodge, station master, for the dispatch of the large number of troops from Porthcawl have been successfully carried out without any mishap of any kind, which reflects great credit upon him, and his staff. Every assistance possible has been given by the Station Staff both to Officers and men."
